Visions, weapons and nations, explained

The Vision sets your OC's element, the weapon sets how they fight, and the nation sets where they come from and what they wear. Pick one of each and the rest of the character falls into place.

Visions

A Vision is a jeweled amulet the gods grant to people with powerful ambitions. It lets its holder channel one of seven elements: Pyro, Hydro, Anemo, Electro, Dendro, Cryo or Geo. Losing a Vision seems to take the ambition with it. The Fatui hand out Vision-like Delusions instead, which anyone can use but which can drain the user's vitality.

Sword example

Sword

The middle ground of the melee weapons: fast combos with short reach, and a charged attack that is usually two quick arcing slashes. The Traveler fights with a sword, and so do Jean, Kazuha, Keqing and Furina, so it suits almost any OC.

Claymore example

Claymore

A huge two-handed blade. Claymore users swing slowly but hit hard, and holding the charged attack chains slash after slash until their stamina runs out. Their hits count as blunt attacks, so they deal extra damage to Geo shields and shatter frozen enemies. Diluc, Eula, Itto and Navia all carry one.

Polearm example

Polearm

A spear with fast thrusts and long forward reach. The charged attack is usually a lunge, and a plunging attack drills down in a spin. Zhongli, Xiao, Hu Tao and Raiden Shogun all fight with one.

Bow example

Bow

The ranged weapon. Bow users fire quick shots or switch to aiming mode, where a fully charged arrow carries their element and a hit on a weak spot is always a critical hit. Venti, Ganyu, Yelan and Tartaglia are archers.

Catalyst example

Catalyst

A magic object such as a book or an orb. Every normal and charged attack made with a catalyst deals elemental damage, which makes catalyst users the spellcasters of the cast, like Mona, Nahida, Neuvillette and Yae Miko. Give your OC a catalyst that says who they are.

Nations and Archons

Teyvat has seven nations, each tied to an element and ruled by a god called an Archon: Mondstadt (Anemo), Liyue (Geo), Inazuma (Electro), Sumeru (Dendro), Fontaine (Hydro), Natlan (Pyro) and Snezhnaya (Cryo), which opened in Version 7.0 in August 2026. Nod-Krai is an autonomous region at the edge of Snezhnaya. Your OC's element does not have to match their home: Kaeya is a Cryo user from Mondstadt.

Rarity and constellations

Playable characters are 4-star or 5-star, and 5-stars are harder to get. Every character also has a constellation: six levels unlocked with extra copies of them, under a Latin-style star sign like Venti's Carmen Dei or Hu Tao's Papilio Charontis.

Names and bursts

Name your Genshin OC, pick a burst

Most Teyvat names are a single word, like Amber, Navia or Kinich, while Inazuma characters put the family name first, like Kamisato Ayaka. The mixer leans toward Mondstadt, Fontaine and Snezhnaya sounds; for Liyue or Inazuma, follow the pattern of the ideas above. Every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide

How to make a Genshin Impact OC

Whether you call it a Genshin OC or a Genshin Impact OC, a strong one comes down to five decisions. This Genshin OC creator handles the drawing; these are worth making first.

  1. 1

Start with the ambition behind the Vision

In the story, Visions go to people with powerful ambitions. Write your OC's ambition in one line, then pick the element that fits it. A Vision with a reason behind it gives the character a goal from the first scene.

  2. 2

Pick a weapon that fits the person

A dock worker swings a claymore, a hunter carries a bow, a scholar fights with a catalyst. Catalysts can be any magic object, so a snow globe or a pressed-flower notebook tells fans who your OC is at a glance.

  3. 3

    Dress them for their nation

Each nation has its own look: capes in Mondstadt, high collars and tassels in Liyue, kimono sleeves in Inazuma, scarves and gold in Sumeru, frills and gloves in Fontaine, bold sporty patterns in Natlan, fur and greatcoats in Snezhnaya. Then place the Vision gem where it shows, like a belt, a collar or a hat.

  4. 4

Design a burst you can draw in one frame

An Elemental Burst is a character's big move, so describe it as one picture: a ring of mushrooms, a falling snow globe, a stairway of stone. Check it against the canon cast so it does not copy a famous burst.

  5. 5

Give them a rarity, a constellation and a home group

Decide whether they are a 4-star or a 5-star, name their constellation, and tie them to a group such as the Knights of Favonius, the Adventurers' Guild or the Sumeru Akademiya. A home group makes it easy to drop your OC into a story or a roleplay.
