The Knight of Crumb Street

Dame BriocheOriginal OC

Dame Brioche, Original OC

A retired knight runs a two-table bakery in the town she used to guard and wants nothing bigger than a full bread shelf by sunrise.

Brioche spent twenty years on the walls of Harrowmere and never once lost the gate, though she lost a lot of sleep. Feed the town she spent twenty years protecting

Flaw

Still inspects every customer like they are at the gate

Fear

That the town will need a knight again

The Haori That Came Home Alone

Shion TsukimuraDemon Slayer OC

A quiet Mist Breathing swordsman wears his older brother’s haori on every mission and wants to finish the work his brother started.

Shion grew up in a fishing village where the morning fog sat on the water until noon. His older brother left to join the Demon Slayer Corps in a new indigo haori their mother had sewn, and one winter only the haori came back. Nell Fairbanks, South Park OC

Pink Lemonade at Eight Below

Nell FairbanksSouth Park OC

A fourth grader new to a snowy mountain town keeps her lemonade stand open all winter to prove a good business works in any weather.

Nell Fairbanks moved to South Park from Phoenix with a business plan, a folding table and no real idea what snow was. On her first day open it was eight below zero and the lemonade froze in the pitcher, so she sold it as slushies and raised the price. By December she had a heat lamp, a loyalty card and a rival stand across the street selling hot cocoa.

Prove a lemonade stand can survive any winter
Flaw
Never admits a bad idea, only rebrands it

The Song in the Sealed Room

Tinsel the RaccoonFNAF OC

A cheerful raccoon animatronic wakes up in a room that was bricked shut years ago and wants to know who sealed it in, and why.

When the new owners knocked through the back wall of the old pizzeria, they found a room that was not on any floor plan. Inside sat a raccoon animatronic in a bent party hat, facing the door, its music box still turning a slow, half-broken birthday tune. Nobody had wound it. The night guard wrote that down in the log, then crossed it out.

Ilyra Tenari, Star Wars OC

The Compass That Points Past the Map

Ilyra TenariStar Wars OC

A Mirialan Jedi Knight follows a brass compass toward a part of space every chart calls empty and wants to learn what it has pointed at all her life.

Ilyra Tenari was found as a child on a survey ship, asleep on a crate of star charts, holding a brass compass that did not point north on any world. The Jedi who brought her to the Temple said the compass pointed at something, and that she would know what when she was ready. Twenty years later, posted to the edge of the frontier, she watched the needle swing hard toward a stretch of space every chart marked as nothing.

Motivation

Flaw
Too stubborn to turn back once she has a heading

That the compass was never pointing at anything

Kaito Arashi, Anime OC

Poems in the Kendo Bag

Kaito ArashiAnime OC

A proud kendo club captain hides a notebook of poems in his gear bag and wants to find out if he can be good at both.

Kaito Arashi started kendo at seven because his grandfather ran the dojo by the river and there was no one else to watch him after school. He started writing poems at twelve, after the dojo closed, because it was the only way he knew to say he missed it. Now he captains the high school club, the red tassel on his wooden sword was his grandfather’s, and the notebook in his bag holds poems no one has read.

Backstory types

Backstory types and story shapes

Most character backstories follow one of a few shapes. Pick one before you start, then choose the tone and story hooks in the generator that fit it.

Tragic past

A loss or a wrong turn that still shapes them. The Tragic tone keeps it gentle: the loss is implied, and the story is about what they carry forward.

  • loss
  • resilience
  • a reason to go on

Hero’s journey

An ordinary life, a call they try to ignore, a mentor, a test they almost fail. The oldest story shape there is, and it fits almost any OC.

  • the call
  • a mentor
  • the test

Redemption arc

They did something wrong, or served the wrong side, and now they are trying to make it right. Pick the A second chance hook.

  • a mistake
  • guilt
  • a way back

Mystery origin

Nobody knows where they came from, sometimes not even them. Use the Mysterious tone and leave questions open for later chapters or roleplay.

  • lost memories
  • clues
  • open questions

Chosen one with a twist

A prophecy picked them, but something is off: the wrong twin, a misread verse, a destiny they turned down. Pick the A prophecy hook.

  • prophecy
  • doubt
  • the twist

Slice of life

Small stakes, big heart: a bakery, a club, a family shop. Cozy backstories suit comfort fics and low-stakes roleplay, and they still need a want.

  • home
  • routine
  • small wins

Found family

They were on their own until a crew, a clan or a strange household took them in. Pick the Found family hook and add a rival to test the bond.

  • belonging
  • loyalty
  • chosen family

Villain origin

How a person with real reasons ended up on the other side. The turning point is a betrayal or a hard choice, never graphic violence.

  • a motive
  • betrayal
  • the line they crossed

Guide

How to write a character backstory that holds up

A good backstory explains why your character wants what they want and what stands in the way. Here is how to get one from the generator and turn it into a story you will actually use.

  1. 1

    Start with one concrete line

Describe the character in one sentence, like "a half-elf ranger who hates cities". A job, a place and one strong opinion give the AI more to work with than a list of adjectives. Add a name and a fandom or world if you have them, or press Random to let the generator invent the character too.

  2. 2

Pick a genre and a tone

The genre sets the world: Fantasy, Sci-fi, Modern day, Superhero, Anime & school, Spooky, Post-apocalyptic, Historical or Fandom canon. The tone sets the feeling: Hopeful, Tragic, Mysterious, Funny, Epic or Cozy.

  3. 3

Add up to three story hooks

Hooks are pieces the story has to include: a lost home, a mentor, a rival, a secret, a promise, found family, a debt, a prophecy, someone missing or a second chance. Hooks that pull against each other, like A promise and A secret, make the best stories.

  4. 4

    Choose a length

Short is one chapter, good for a roleplay bio. Medium is three chapters: the origin, the turning point and where they are now. Long is five, adding growing up and the cost of the turning point. Every length also gets the title, logline, four traits, three plot hooks and a lore note.

  5. 5

Make it yours, then use it

Regenerate until the story clicks, then edit it: change a name, cut a line, add a detail only you know. Copy it or download it as a .txt file, press Draw this character to draw them, or take the character to the headcanon generator for everyday details.
