Six cyberpunk OCs with a reason to be here

Start with an ordinary responsibility inside an extraordinary city. Each illustrated character has a distinct face, palette and job. Use this idea fills the editable fields and description; it does not spend credits or start image generation. Change the person and their goal before saving a design as your own.

Know the rules

Build a cyberpunk world around the person

These are practical design rules for an original setting, not a canon encyclopedia or a role-playing ruleset. The genre sources explain the broad context; every district and crew in this maker is invented. Let the city affect the character without allowing the background to swallow their face.

Technology changes the working day example

Technology changes the working day

A cyberpunk character should have a relationship to technology, not simply a glowing sleeve. Decide what the implant helps them do, who maintains it and what happens when the battery runs low. A courier might use mechanical shins for comfortable movement while still needing safe routes and a reliable ferry. A hacker can depend on a portable keyboard rather than having instant access to every network. These are fictional design prompts, not predictions about real assistive technology or claims about disability. Keep cyberware clean and integrated, with intact coverings and no exposed wounds. The character remains a person with preferences, friends and limits.

A district should explain the outfit example

A district should explain the outfit

Choose a neighborhood before collecting accessories. Canal platforms call for sealed bags and weatherproof boots; rooftop gardens suggest compact tools and layers that leave the hands free. A clinic arcade needs washable outer clothing and a clearly organized supply bag. Districts here are invented places, so you can rename them without contradicting a game map. Make the setting visible through two strong cues rather than a wall of tiny signs. Reflected light, a raised walkway or rain on a metal awning communicates a city quickly. Keep all signage abstract and unreadable, and avoid real company marks on equipment.

Crews have responsibilities, not just colors example

Crews have responsibilities, not just colors

The Canal Relay Cooperative and Lantern Clinic Network are original groups created for these examples. They are not established organizations from a franchise. Write down what the crew provides and what it asks members to contribute. A cooperative may share replacement parts; a community radio station may trade studio time for help maintaining its transmitter. That gives your OC a reason to talk to other people. A faction does not need a skull emblem, military rank or universal control over the city. Show affiliation through a practical shared color or repeated pocket shape, keeping jackets free of copied corporate logos.

Neon works best against a quiet base

A black coat covered in unrelated lights becomes hard to read at thumbnail size. Start with one main fabric color, one support color and a single implant glow. The lighting picker describes the scene; the glow swatch describes a character detail. They do not need to match. An amber implant can stand out against cyan rain while a plum coat keeps the figure separate from the pavement. Describe reflective trim as trim, not lettering. In a reference image, ask for a calm pose that makes the face and hands readable. Save the complex crowd scene for a separate illustration.

Street roles are broader than combat

This page includes hackers, mechanics, musicians, couriers and transit workers because a city needs all of them. A bodyguard can help someone reach a safe station without pointing a weapon at anyone. A detective can study a lost equipment case rather than a graphic crime scene. Give your character a task with a beginning and an end: repair one relay, deliver one package, or record one interview. That small scale helps a reader understand what success looks like. It also leaves room for the OC to make mistakes, learn a new route and ask a friend for help.

Genre inspiration is not a game preset

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction genre associated with advanced technology and unequal social power. Cyberpunk 2077 is a specific game within a particular fictional universe. These presets build an independent city and new people; they do not recreate its protagonists, companies or character editor. Keep familiar franchise silhouettes out of the design, including distinctive jackets, haircuts and signature weapons used together. A general neon skyline is a useful starting atmosphere, but the original face, occupation and equipment should carry the identity. You can choose optimism and community care inside a difficult setting without losing the genre connection.

Names

Street aliases and civilian identities

The cyberpunk genre has no universal naming law. Some stories use ordinary civilian names, some use short handles, and some use both. These banks follow two deliberately separate writing conventions: a two-word street alias and a first-name-plus-surname identity. They are original prompts rather than a list of unused official characters. Say a result aloud and imagine a neighbor calling it across a workshop. You can keep a quiet everyday name even when the outfit is futuristic. The local mixer is free, needs no sign-up and only fills the name field; it does not start an image request.

Guide

How to make a cyberpunk OC worth following

Build the first reference around a clear person, then add the city. The Cyberpunk Character Creator gives you editable starting points, so you do not need a complete novel before choosing a coat. Work through these five passes and keep only details that help another artist or writer understand the character.

  1. 1

Start with a job and a small promise

Write what the OC promised to do today. A courier promised a careful delivery; a musician promised a short concert; a mechanic promised to return a repaired fan. Choose a role that supports that promise, then add one obstacle that does not require a fight. A closed bridge, a low battery or an unfamiliar customer can all create a scene. Decide what the person enjoys outside the job as well. This keeps the design from becoming a uniform with a name attached. Put the visual details in the description and save longer plot notes in your own document.

  2. 2

Choose one piece of visible cyberware

Select a primary implant and say where it sits. Mechanical fingers, an audio implant or a clean forearm shell can be enough to establish the technology. Give it a practical purpose, a maintenance need and a visible material. Avoid asking for several unrelated devices at once, because the reference becomes harder to inspect. Do not describe a disabled character as less human or assume their equipment explains their entire personality. Check the generated hand, joints and attachment points before accepting the result. A beautiful color scheme does not compensate for anatomy that makes no sense.

  3. 3

Connect the district, crew and clothing

Pick the neighborhood where the scene happens, then decide whether the character works independently or belongs to an original group. Read the selected values together as a sentence. A canal courier in a weatherproof cape makes immediate sense; a corporate defector in repaired overalls might need one line explaining their new workshop job. Choose two fabric colors before adding a light color. If your prompt changes the district, also revise any leftover background field so the image model receives one location. The same principle applies when you load a new idea after writing a custom scene.

  4. 4

Test a name against the voice of the story

Use the street-alias set for a public handle or the civilian set for an everyday identity. An alias should be easy to remember and comfortable to say, not just a string of technical nouns. Keep both names in your private notes if the character uses different identities at work and at home. The specialty cards add a useful limit to the draft. Surprise me supplies a coherent combination of fields and a description, but every part remains editable. Read the new draft once before generating, and remove any detail that contradicts your own established character.

  5. 5

Review the art as a working reference

Look first at the face, hands and silhouette, then at the background. Check that the intended implant is visible, the clothing remains fully covering, and no random letters or brands appeared on signs or bags. Use a plain background for a clean design study or a rainy district for a story illustration. Keep the image teen-safe and avoid graphic injury or weapons aimed at people. Save your accepted result together with the written details, noting anything a human artist should correct. AI can vary small features between images, so continuity still needs your attention.
