Pirate example

Pirate

A One Piece pirate OC sails under a crew flag, the Jolly Roger, and sooner or later gets a bounty from the World Government. The amount follows the threat the Marines see, not raw strength: Chopper's first bounty was 50 berries because they took him for the crew's pet. Rookies who reach the Sabaody Archipelago with bounties over 100,000,000 are called Supernovas.

Marine example

Marine

The navy of the World Government. Ranks run from Seaman Recruit up to Fleet Admiral, with the admirals as its strongest fighters. Ensigns and above may wear the white coat with "Justice" on the back, usually draped over the shoulders like a cape, and officers from Lieutenant Commander up pick their own suit to wear under it.

Revolutionary Army example

Revolutionary Army

Founded and led by Monkey D. Dragon, the Revolutionary Army wants to bring down the World Government and the World Nobles who profit from it. Most of its work is freeing single islands from rulers who squeeze their people to pay the Heavenly Tribute, so a revolutionary OC is often a scout, a spy or a quiet organizer.

Bounty hunter example

Bounty hunter

Freelancers who chase wanted criminals and turn them in for the reward. Posters promise payment dead or alive, but a dead target can cost up to 30% of the bounty, so most hunters bring pirates in alive. The Marines look down on them, and Zoro was a feared "Pirate Hunter" before he joined Luffy.

Cipher Pol agent example

Cipher Pol agent

The World Government's secret service: eight official units, CP1 to CP8, plus the secret CP9 and CP0, which serves the World Nobles. Agents train in the Six Powers, superhuman martial arts such as Soru (super speed) and Geppo (running on air), and CP9 demands all six. Many go undercover for years.

Devil Fruits

Each fruit grants one power and takes away the ability to swim, and seawater and Seastone drain the user. Paramecia, the most common, cover any superhuman ability. Zoans turn the user into an animal or a hybrid, with rarer Ancient and Mythical kinds. Logias, the rarest of the three, let the body become an element like fire or sand.

Haki

Willpower turned into strength. Observation Haki senses people and reads attacks before they land. Armament Haki works as invisible armor; a coated fist or blade turns shiny black and can strike a Logia user's elemental body. Both can be trained, but Conqueror's Haki, which overwhelms weaker wills, is something only about one in several million people are born with.

Names and Devil Fruits

Name your pirate, pick a Devil Fruit

In One Piece the epithet comes first and sticks for life, like Pirate Hunter Zoro or Cat Burglar Nami. Mix an epithet with a given name, then pick a Devil Fruit. None of the ten fruits below appears in the series, so this doubles as a Devil Fruit idea generator. Every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide

How to make a One Piece OC

A good One Piece character build comes down to five choices. This One Piece OC creator handles the drawing; settle these first and your OC will feel at home on the Grand Line.

  1. 1

    Start with a dream

Every Straw Hat sails for a dream: Luffy wants to be King of the Pirates, Zoro the greatest swordsman in the world, Nami a map of the whole world. Give your OC one big, specific dream and the rest of the character can grow around it.

  2. 2

Pick the side, then the role

Pirate, Marine, revolutionary, bounty hunter or Cipher Pol agent decides who is chasing your OC. On a crew, a job like navigator, cook or shipwright gives them something to do in every scene, even when nobody is fighting.

  3. 3

Build the Devil Fruit around one image

Name it the way the series does, a doubled word plus "Fruit", like Kite-Kite Fruit, and describe one thing it does. The series has well over a hundred fruits, so check that yours is not taken. Or skip the fruit, train Haki and keep the ability to swim.

  4. 4

Design a silhouette fans can draw from memory

Oda's designs read from across a room: a huge coat, a strange hat, an outsized weapon, wild proportions. Choose one striking piece, and stay clear of canon signatures like a straw hat over a red vest, a green-haired three-sword swordsman or a blue pompadour on a cyborg.

  5. 5

Set a bounty that matches the threat

A bounty shows how dangerous the World Government thinks your OC is, not just how strong they are. A rookie from the East Blue might carry a few million berries; over 100,000,000 puts them with the Supernovas. Put the bounty and the epithet on their sheet.
