Know the rules
Every Bluey OC starts with a breed. In the show each family has a breed of its own: the Heelers are Australian Cattle Dogs, Bluey and Bandit Blue Heelers, Bingo and Chilli Red Heelers. Pick a breed nobody in the main cast has, then decide how old your pup is and what game they would play all day.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a short-legged cattle herding dog from Pembrokeshire in Wales, and its name is Welsh for "dwarf dog". That makes it a fellow cattle dog to the Heelers. The only corgi with a speaking part in the show is a grown-up vet, so a corgi kid is all yours.

A Siberian sled dog first bred by the Chukchi people, with a thick double coat, upright triangle ears and a face mask pattern. Husky eyes can be blue, brown or one of each, a detail that makes an OC easy to spot. Huskies only appear as minor and background dogs in the show.

A sighthound built for speed: long legs, a deep chest and a slim S-shaped outline, with racing greyhounds reaching at least 69 km/h (43 mph). In the show a greyhound works as a nurse at the hospital, so a greyhound kid or grandparent is free to make.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a big farm dog from the canton of Bern in the Swiss Alps that once pulled carts. Its coat is a set tri-color: black, with a white chest and rust above the eyes, on the cheeks and on the legs. No named character in the show is a Bernese.

The Scottish Terrier, or Scottie, is a small, tough farm terrier from Scotland with a wiry coat, a beard and big eyebrows. Scotties come in black, brindle and a pale wheaten. One turns up in the show only as a background busker, so the breed is open.
Bluey is six, later seven, and Bingo is four, later five. Bingo goes to kindy with Mrs Retriever and Bluey goes to school with Calypso. Grown-ups have real jobs: Bandit is an archaeologist and Chilli works part-time in airport security. Clothes show up for a reason, like a vet shirt, a nurse outfit or Calypso's blue shawl, so one small accessory is plenty for a kid OC.
Creator Joe Brumm often starts writing from games his own children play, and many episodes are built around one: in Keepy Uppy the sisters keep a balloon in the air, the Magic Xylophone freezes Bandit in place, and in Hotel the girls run a pretend hotel at home. Give your OC a favorite game and you already have a story.
Brisbane inspired the show's setting, and Ludo Studio, the company that makes it, is based in Brisbane too. Houses follow the high-set Queenslander style with wide verandas, the trees include poincianas and jacarandas, and the kids head to the local playground, the creek and the beach.
Names and games
Dogs in Bluey go by ordinary first names like Calypso, Chloe and Mackenzie or sweet nicknames like Muffin, Honey and Snickers, and some families carry a name from their breed: the Heelers, Jack Russell, Mackenzie Border Collie, Mrs Retriever. Mix a name, then pick the game or toy your pup is known for. Every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide
Whether you want one pup or want to make your own Bluey characters for a whole family, the steps are the same. To create your own Bluey character that looks like it walked out of an episode, make these five choices first.
The show gives each family its own breed, so a Blue or Red Heeler reads as a Heeler relative, a pink Poodle as Coco and a Dalmatian as Chloe. Start from a breed the main cast does not use, like the five in the Breed picker, or describe another in Extra details, such as a Weimaraner or a Newfoundland.
Dogs in the show are drawn as simple patches of color: a main coat, a lighter muzzle and chest, eyebrow spots, a colored tail tip. Pick one Coat color and one Markings color and let the breed do the rest. Two colors and one small accent are plenty.
Decide whether your OC is a kindy kid, a big kid from school, a grown-up with a job or a grandparent with stories. Then give them a spot in the neighborhood: the new kid at school, the family next door, a cousin who visits for the holidays.
Most Bluey stories start with a game. Pick a Play style, then write one favorite game or toy in its box: a cardboard box rocket, a pots-and-pans drum kit, a bug jar for creek walks. The name mixer on this page has ten more ideas.
A standard episode runs about seven minutes and turns on a small, real problem: taking turns, losing a game, being scared to try something new. Give your OC one of those and one thing they are great at, and they will feel like they belong in the show.
