This free Mario OC creator is a Super Mario character creator that does the drawing for you. Pick a species from Toad to Koopa to Boo, a role and a power-up, choose cap and outfit colors, and get your Mario OC as a glossy game-style 3D render.

Ideas
Load one of these Mario OCs into the generator, then swap the species, the colors or the power-up to create your own Mario character. None of them is a canon character.

Art styles
Tilly Brightcap, a Toad who maps warp pipes, drawn five ways by this Mario OC creator from the same description. Switch the art style in the generator to do the same with your OC, or set Output to Ref sheet for front, side and back views.

Know the rules
To create your own Super Mario character, start with the species. It sets the body, the outfit and the jobs the games usually give it. Here is what each one looks like in canon and how to make it yours.
Sources: Super Mario (Wikipedia); Toad (species) (Super Mario Wiki); Koopa Troopa (Super Mario Wiki)

Mario, Luigi and Peach are human, but Toads are the main people of the Mushroom Kingdom. Super Mario Odyssey added New Donk City, a whole city of humans called New Donkers. A human OC gets the full outfit: cap, gloves, overalls or a dress, and boots.

The main people of the Mushroom Kingdom, with a capital called Toad Town. Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi has said the spotted cap is part of a Toad's head, not a hat. Toads run shops, guard castles and explore, so almost any job fits.

Koopa Troopas are upright turtles with removable shells in many colors, green and red being the most common. Most are foot soldiers for the villain, but Super Mario 64 showed that not every Koopa is, so a Koopa OC can be a minion or a friend. Add wings and it becomes a Paratroopa.

A species of friendly dinosaurs that first appeared in Super Mario World. Yoshis come in many colors, grab food with long tongues and lay eggs. Designer Takashi Tezuka has said Yoshi began as a kind of Koopa and the saddle was its shell. Write the body color in Extra details.

Round white ghosts first seen in Super Mario Bros. 3. A Boo covers its face when you look at it and creeps closer when you turn away, a shy-then-bold mix Shigeru Miyamoto based on a coworker's wife. Boo OCs live in ghost houses and work best cute, not scary.

Small masked figures in robes, first seen in Doki Doki Panic, the game that became Super Mario Bros. 2 outside Japan. The white mask has three holes and red robes are the most common. Canon variants add gear like spears or propellers, so give yours a robe color and one prop of its own.

Brown mushroom-shaped walkers with two feet and no arms, usually the first enemy in a game. Most Goombas turned on the Mushroom Kingdom to join the villain, but friendly ones live in places like Goomba Village in Paper Mario. With no hands, a Goomba OC shows off with hats, capes and headbutts.
Names and moves
Mario names love a pun. Goombario is Goomba plus Mario, Parakarry is a Paratroopa who carries the mail, and Admiral Bobbery and Professor Frankly pair a title with a joke word. Mix a title and a pun word, then pick a signature move. None of the pairings is a canon name, and every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide
Fans create Mario characters for comics, roleplay and fan games, and the ones that stick look like they could show up in a real game. Make these five decisions first and the Mario OC creator handles the drawing.
The species sets the silhouette before any color does. A Toad is mostly cap, a Koopa carries a shell, a Goomba has no arms at all and a Boo is one round shape with tiny hands. Pick the species tile first and design around what that body can do.
Mario and Luigi read from across a level because they use two color blocks: a cap and shirt in one color, overalls in another. Do the same with Cap color and Outfit or shell color, and put a simple icon like a star, a leaf or a bolt on the cap instead of a letter.
Power-ups change the outfit: a Super Leaf adds raccoon ears and a tail, a Super Bell gives a cat suit, a Cape Feather adds a cape. Pick one in the Power-up field, then write one move that is only theirs, like a shell spin or an extra-long flutter jump.
The Mario world runs on small jobs: shopkeepers, racers, guards, explorers and minions who just follow orders. A hero on a rescue, a rival with a grudge or a minion who wants out gives your OC a story from the first panel.
Canon names mix a species or a job with a joke: Goombario, Parakarry, Admiral Bobbery. Build yours the same way with the name mixer, then search the Super Mario Wiki to check that no canon character already uses it.
