Name styles

Demon name styles, explained

The generator has six styles. Each one uses its own syllables or name lists and its own kind of title, so the same feel setting gives very different demons.

Infernal

Names in the spirit of old grimoires like the Ars Goetia: starts such as Bel, Mal and Az, endings like -oth, -ith and -ziel, and a court rank with a place to rule. They suit fallen nobles, story villains and a Hazbin Hotel OC.

  • grimoire sound
  • court ranks
  • fallen nobles

D&D fiend

Short, harsh names built for the tabletop: Krag, Vex, Thrax and Skar, hard endings like -gash and -uk, and sometimes an apostrophe. Easy to read off a DM screen and hard to forget. Use them for demon lords, cambions, warlock patrons and tiefling NPCs.

  • harsh consonants
  • apostrophes
  • DM friendly

Oni & yokai

Japanese-sounding names from syllables like Aka (red), Kuro (black), Kiri (mist) and Tsuki (moon), with endings like -maru, -jin and -hime. Titles are folklore epithets such as the Lantern-Eyed or of the Red Torii.

  • Japanese syllables
  • folklore epithets
  • masks and torii

Elegant

A first and a last name with gothic polish, like Isadora Cindervale or Octavian Ravensworth, plus a noble rank. Pick it for demons who host dinner parties, run old hotels or sign contracts in silver ink.

  • first and last name
  • noble ranks
  • gothic manners

Eldritch

Names that are hard to say out loud: clusters like Yth, Zh and Vh, doubled vowels and apostrophes in odd places. Titles are strange epithets like of the Folded Hour or Who Hums Beneath the Ice.

  • hard to pronounce
  • cosmic horror
  • dream logic

Cute & chaotic

Snack names and soft words like Pickle, Mochi and Mothball, with titles like Destroyer of Socks or Sworn Enemy of Mondays. Made for comic relief, pet familiars, mascots and usernames.

Guide

How to name a demon OC

A good demon name tells readers what kind of creature they are meeting before they read the bio. Here is a simple way to find demon OC names that fit, with the generator and a little judgment.

  1. 1

Decide what kind of demon it is

A grimoire duke, a tabletop fiend, a yokai, a gothic aristocrat, a cosmic horror or a gremlin that steals socks? Pick the style that matches. The style decides how the name sounds and what kind of title it gets.

  2. 2

Pick a feel and say it out loud

Choose feminine, masculine, neutral or any, then say a few names out loud, using the pronunciation guide under each syllable name. If you will use the name at a D&D table or in a voiced video, pick one people can say on the first try, unless the point is that nobody can.

  3. 3

Let the domain write the hook

Every name comes with a domain, like maps that lie or stolen sleep. Treat it as a story prompt: what does this demon do in a scene, and who would be foolish enough to make a deal with it? Keep titles on for a ready-made line for the bio.

  4. 4

    Shortlist, then check

Save the names you like to favorites and generate a few more batches. Before you publish, search your top pick to make sure it is not already a well-known character, a band or a brand.

  5. 5

Give it a mark and a face

Download the sigil as an SVG and use it as a tattoo, a seal on a contract or a chapter heading. Then press Draw this demon to send the name to the matching OC maker and see what your demon looks like.
