This free Marvel OC creator is a Marvel character generator that does the drawing for you. Pick an origin from mutant to the Mystic Arts, a role and a corner of the Marvel universe, choose suit and emblem colors, describe one power, and make a Marvel superhero of your own in the modern Marvel comic book style.

Ideas
Stuck on an origin? Load one of these mutants, Inhumans and street-level heroes into the Marvel OC creator, then change the suit, the emblem or the power until the hero feels like yours.

Know the rules
In Marvel comics, the origin decides who knows about the power, who fears it and what it costs. Let the logic of Marvel make your own superhero believable: pick one origin and the rest of the hero falls into place.

Mutants are born with the X-gene, and their powers usually switch on around puberty, with no warning. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced them in The X-Men #1 in 1963. Young mutants train at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in Salem Center, New York, and some carry a visible mutation no costume can hide.

Inhumans descend from early humans the alien Kree experimented on. Their powers sleep until Terrigenesis, when breathing the Terrigen Mists, often inside a cocoon, changes body and power at once. They debuted in Fantastic Four #45 in 1965, and in the 2013 Infinity event a Terrigen bomb spread the mists worldwide, waking NuHumans who never knew their family history.

Science made them. Steve Rogers was the first test subject of the Super-Soldier Serum in Captain America Comics #1, cover-dated March 1941, and Bruce Banner became the Hulk after a gamma bomb blast in 1962. An enhanced OC needs a lab, a formula or an accident, and someone who wants to copy it.

Peter Parker got his powers from a radioactive spider bite in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962. The 2014 Spider-Verse event, which inspired the 2018 film Into the Spider-Verse, gathered spider-heroes from across the multiverse, so a spider OC can come from any Earth. Pick a different spider and a suit with no web pattern.

The power is the suit. Tony Stark built his first armor in Tales of Suspense #39 in 1963, and in 2016 Riri Williams, a 15-year-old engineering student at MIT, built her own and became Ironheart. A suit OC is an inventor first, so decide what the armor runs on, where it breaks and who paid for the parts.

Doctor Strange debuted in Strange Tales #110 in 1963, trained under the Ancient One in the Himalayas and became Sorcerer Supreme, Earth's guard against magical threats. He lives in the Sanctum Sanctorum at 177A Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. A mystic OC needs a teacher, a relic or a spell with a price.

Thor debuted in Journey into Mystery #83 in 1962. Asgardians look human but have superhuman strength and durability, live for centuries thanks to Idunn's golden apples, and reach Midgard, their name for Earth, over the rainbow bridge Bifrost. Cosmic OCs can also come from alien empires like the Kree or the Skrulls.
Daredevil, a blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen, debuted in 1964. Street-level heroes guard a few blocks instead of the planet, with any origin or none. In 2017 Netflix teamed Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as The Defenders, and Marvel launched a comic with the same four.
Codenames and powers
Decades of Marvel heroes create your own superhero's biggest headache: most one-word codenames are taken. Mix a new one from two halves, the way X-Men names like Nightcrawler work, then pick a power. Every click goes straight onto your hero in the generator.
first half + second half, one word
Pick the power your hero is known for, from any origin.
Guide
Thousands of Marvel comics make your own superhero easier to plan, because the origins, places and rules already exist. Whether you make your own Marvel character for fan fiction or create your own Marvel character for a roleplay server, these five decisions come first. The generator handles the drawing.
Every Marvel origin comes with a catch. Mutants are feared, Inhumans come out of the cocoon changed, serum knockoffs wear off, suits break and spells take a price. Write the cost next to the power and every fight has stakes. Before you build your own Marvel superhero, decide what they do when that power is unavailable.
A student at Xavier's School, a vigilante in Hell's Kitchen, an apprentice near the Sanctum Sanctorum and an exile from Asgard live very different stories. Pick one place and one role, and let the rules of Marvel make your own hero feel at home in Earth-616.
There are a few rules of classic Marvel design your own hero can borrow: two or three main colors, one emblem fans can draw from memory and a clear silhouette. When you make your own Marvel superhero, invent the emblem yourself and skip the famous ones: a spider, a star on a round shield, the A or X logos, red and gold armor, a yellow and blue cowl.
Peter Parker takes photos for the Daily Bugle and Matt Murdock is a lawyer in Hell's Kitchen. A day job gives your OC a schedule, coworkers and a reason to be late. Marvel character creation is easier when you can picture an ordinary workday as clearly as an action scene. Put it in Extra details, along with who knows the secret.
Disney counted more than 5,000 Marvel characters when it agreed to buy the company in 2009, so most single-word names are taken: Tempo, for example, is already a time-bending mutant. Use the codename mixer above, search your pick on the Marvel Database, and give your hero a rival to keep the story moving.
