Demon slayer example

Demon slayer

Recruits join the Demon Slayer Corps by surviving seven days of Final Selection on a mountain full of captured demons. Survivors start at Mizunoto, the lowest of ten ranks, and get the black corps uniform, a talking Kasugai crow that delivers orders, and a Nichirin blade forged for them.

Hashira example

Hashira

The strongest swordsmen in the Corps, ranked above Kinoe, the top regular rank. A slayer earns the title by killing fifty demons at Kinoe or by killing one of the Twelve Kizuki. Each Hashira is named for their style, like the Water Hashira, and some train a chosen successor called a tsuguko.

Breathing styles

Total Concentration Breathing is what lets a human swordsman keep pace with demons. Sun Breathing came first and branched into the rest. Water, Flame, Wind, Thunder and Stone are the five basic styles; Flower and Serpent grew from Water, Love from Flame, Sound from Thunder and Insect from Flower. Each style is a set of numbered forms.

Nichirin blades

Swordsmiths forge every slayer's sword from a rare ore, and the blade changes color the first time its owner draws it. The color hints at their style: blue for Water, red for Flame, yellow for Thunder, green for Wind, grey for Stone. Black blades are rare and carry an unlucky reputation.

Kakushi example

Kakushi

The Corps' cleanup brigade. Kakushi clear battlefields, carry wounded slayers to the Butterfly Mansion and guide visitors to the Swordsmith Village. They hide their faces under hoods and cloth masks and stay out of the fighting, which suits an OC who is brave without a sword.

Demon example

Demon

Every demon was once human and was turned by Muzan Kibutsuji's blood. Demons heal from almost any wound, and the stronger ones have a Blood Demon Art, a power unique to each demon. Sunlight, a beheading with a Nichirin blade or wisteria poison will end them.

Twelve Kizuki

Muzan's twelve strongest demons: six Lower Ranks with the rank engraved in one eye, and six Upper Ranks with it in both. Fans often call them Lower and Upper Moons. Muzan kills off most of the Lower Ranks partway through the story, so a new Lower Rank OC fits the lore.

Guide

How to make a Demon Slayer OC

Whether you call it a Demon Slayer OC or a KNY OC, a strong one comes down to five decisions. The generator handles the drawing; these are worth making first.

  1. 1

    Pick a side first

A slayer, a Hashira, a Kakushi and a demon live very different stories. A rookie slayer has Final Selection and a first mission ahead; a demon has a human past it barely remembers. Choose the role and let the rest follow.

  2. 2

Build the breathing style around one form

Pick a style, then describe one signature form in a single line, like "a low spinning cut that leaves a ring of droplets". If you invent a style, branch it from one of the five basic ones (Water, Flame, Wind, Thunder, Stone) so it fits the lore.

  3. 3

Match the blade to the style

A Nichirin blade takes a color that hints at its owner's style, so a Water user with a blue blade reads right at a glance. Describe a guard shape in Extra details, such as a snowflake or a hexagon, for a detail fans will notice.

  4. 4

Design a haori nobody else wears

The haori is the first thing fans recognize, so stay away from the main cast's patterns: green and black checks, yellow triangles, half-and-half panels, butterfly wings and flame hems. Pick one pattern and one main color, and keep the rest of the outfit to the black corps uniform.

  5. 5

Give them a rank and a reason

Many slayers in the story joined after losing someone to a demon. Choose a rank from Mizunoto to Kinoe, write one line on why your OC fights, and for a demon, tie the Blood Demon Art to something from their human life.
