Ways to use it

What to do with an OC randomizer

A spin is a starting point, not a finished character. These are the ways artists, writers and roleplayers use random OCs, and the reels that matter most for each.

Art prompts

Spin, then draw exactly what the reels say. Odd pairs like a stone golem court jester or an android station cook pull you away from the faces, poses and color schemes you always reach for.

  • sketch practice
  • color studies
  • new silhouettes

Spin the wheel challenge

Spin once, keep whatever lands, and draw it against a timer. No re-spins allowed. Post the copied result next to the art so people can see what the wheel handed you.

  • timed drawing
  • no re-spins
  • post the result

Writing practice

The flaw and goal reels are a plot in two lines. A character who never asks for help and wants to protect their hometown already has a story. Write one scene where the flaw gets in the way of the goal.

  • flash fiction
  • scene prompts
  • character voice

Roleplay characters

Need a shopkeeper, a rival or a new party member in a hurry? Pick your roleplay’s setting from the list and spin a name, a role and three traits. The flaw gives you something to play.

  • NPCs
  • side characters
  • party members

Fandom OCs

Land on a fandom and the reels use that page’s options: a Sonic species and special ability, a pony type and cutie mark, a Clan cat name from the warrior name mixer. Draw this OC opens the fandom’s maker with all of it picked.

  • Sonic
  • MLP
  • Warrior Cats

OC swaps and art trades

Spin an OC for a friend and have them spin one for you, then draw each other’s result. Copy the text into the chat so both of you work from the same brief.

  • art trades
  • OC swaps
  • group chats

Beating art block

When nothing comes to mind, spin five times without locking anything. Keep the one that makes you want to pick up a pencil, lock the reels that caught your eye, and re-spin the rest.

  • quick ideas
  • lock and re-spin
  • warm-ups

Building a cast

Pick one setting and spin once per character for a party, a class or a found family. Each member gets a different role, flaw and goal, which gives the group built-in friction.

  • parties
  • classmates
  • found family

Guide

How to use the random OC maker

This OC creator randomizer takes about a minute per character. Here is how to get a spin worth keeping, then turn it into art and a story.

  1. 1

    Spin the wheel

Press Spin. The wheel lands on one of twelve settings, from Fantasy, Sci-fi and Modern to Sonic, MLP and Genshin, and the reels fill in a whole OC: name, species or type, role, pronouns, look, a power or mark, three traits, a flaw and a goal. Want a fandom that is not on the wheel? Pick it from the list instead.

  2. 2

    Lock what you like

Tap the lock on any reel worth keeping: a name you love, a species that sparks an idea, a flaw that makes you laugh. Locked reels stay put on every spin until you unlock them.

  3. 3

    Re-spin the rest

Spin again and only the unlocked reels change. Keep going until the character clicks. Your recent spins stay in the browser, so an earlier result is still there if you change your mind, and Copy puts the current one on your clipboard as text.

  4. 4

    Draw this OC

Press Draw this OC. A fandom spin opens that fandom’s OC maker with the same options already picked, like the species and special ability on the Sonic page. A Fantasy, Sci-fi or Modern spin opens the homepage OC generator. Choose an art style and generate.

  5. 5

    Give them a story

A spin is a sketch of a character. Send the name and traits to the OC backstory generator for an origin story, or to the headcanon generator for daily-life habits, and the random OC turns into one you know well.
