The look decides how your crewmate is drawn, and the role decides what they get up to on the ship. Pick one of each and the rest of the OC falls into place.

Crewmate example

Crewmate

Most players in a round are Crewmates. They run tasks around the map, like Fix Wiring or Swipe Card, and call emergency meetings to vote out whoever seems suspicious. The game draws them as short, round astronauts with no arms, a blue glass visor and a small pack on the back.

tasksmeetingsno arms
Impostor example

Impostor

One to three players per round are secretly Impostors. They look exactly like Crewmates, fake their way through a task list, slip through vents and sabotage the lights or the doors to cause chaos. An Impostor OC here is sneaky and funny, with a sly look and nothing scary.

Crewmate roles

With roles turned on, some Crewmates get a special job. Engineers can hide in vents, Scientists carry portable vitals, Trackers follow one player on their map, Noisemakers set off an alarm that shows everyone where they were caught, Detectives question players about where they were, and Judges can overrule a meeting once per match.

Impostor roles

Impostors have three special roles. Shapeshifters disguise themselves as another player for a short time, changing inside a bubble of their suit color. Phantoms turn invisible for a while behind a puff of smoke in their color. The Viper, added alongside the Detective in 2025, is the newest of the three.

Ghosts example

Ghosts

Anyone voted out or caught by an Impostor comes back as a ghost. Crewmate ghosts can still finish tasks and Impostor ghosts can still sabotage, but the living cannot see them. Two roles only exist as ghosts: the Guardian Angel, who can shield a living player for a few seconds, and the Influencer, who sends living players picture messages.

Colors and cosmetics

The wardrobe has 18 suit colors, and only one player in a lobby can wear each. Cyan and Lime arrived in 2019; Maroon, Rose, Banana, Gray, Tan and Coral came with 15-player lobbies in June 2021. Hats, skins, visor cosmetics, pets and nameplates change how a crewmate looks, not how it plays.

Humanized crewmates example

Humanized crewmates

A fan style, not something from the game: the crewmate drawn as a person wearing the same spacesuit, usually with the helmet off to show a face and hair. It suits comics, ask blogs and roleplay, where the character needs expressions a visor cannot show.

Mini crewmates example

Mini crewmates

Another fan favorite: a pet-sized crewmate with an extra-round body and stubby legs. The game sells a tiny crewmate as a pet that follows its owner, so a mini OC can be somebody's sidekick, or the hero of its own story.

Names and hats

Name your crewmate, pick a signature hat or pet

Among Us caps names at 10 characters, so crewmates go by short, punchy nicknames. Mix one from a style word and an ending, then pick the hat or pet your crewmate is known for. Every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide

How to make an Among Us OC

Any Among Us maker can swap a suit color. A crewmate OC people remember comes from five choices, and the generator handles the drawing once you make them.

  1. 1

Pick the look before the color

A classic crewmate reads instantly as a profile picture, a humanized one works for comics and roleplay, a mini one makes a perfect sidekick, and a ghost or an Impostor arrives with a story attached. Choose the look first and the rest follows.

  2. 2

Claim a color, then add a visor the game lacks

Only one player per lobby can wear each of the 18 colors, so fans often know a crewmate by color alone. In the game the visor is always blue glass; a gold, mint or pink visor marks your OC as yours at a glance.

  3. 3

Give them one signature hat or pet

Crewmates are simple shapes, so one accessory does most of the work. Pick a single hat or pet that says something about them, like a hard hat for the one who always fixes the wiring, instead of piling on cosmetics.

  4. 4

Choose a role and a favorite task

An Engineer who lives in the vents, a Scientist glued to vitals, a Detective with a notepad: the role gives your OC a job, and a favorite task like Fix Wiring, Swipe Card or Clear Asteroids gives them something to brag or grumble about.

  5. 5

Keep the name to 10 characters

The game caps names at 10 characters, so the best crewmate names are short nicknames that fit the name tag. Try the name mixer above, then add one line in Extra details about how they act in emergency meetings.
