Jedi example

Jedi

Force users who guarded the Republic for generations. Younglings train at the Temple, become Padawans under a Knight or Master, and pass the Jedi Trials to become Knights. The Order had no set uniform, but most Jedi wear tan or brown robes, many Padawans wear a thin braid, and most lightsabers glow blue or green.

Sith example

Sith

Dark side users and the oldest enemies of the Jedi. After Darth Bane set the Rule of Two, there were only ever two Sith Lords at a time, a master and an apprentice. A Sith blade glows red because its kyber crystal has been "bled" through the dark side. For a Sith OC with company, set them in the Old Republic era, before the rule.

Clone trooper example

Clone trooper

Grown on Kamino from the DNA of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, clones age at twice the normal rate and fought for the Republic under Jedi generals in the Clone Wars. They share one face, so clone OCs stand out the way canon clones do: a nickname, a haircut, a tattoo and the unit color painted on their armor.

Mandalorian example

Mandalorian

A clan-based culture, not a species: a Mandalorian can be any species bound by the shared creed. Their armor is often forged from beskar, which can stop a blaster bolt, and most paint it in their own colors. Followers of the strict Way of the Mandalore never take off their helmets in front of others and take in orphaned foundlings.

Smuggler and pilot example

Smuggler and pilot

Smugglers slip illegal cargo past customs and blockades, then sell it on the black market or deliver it to a client. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian are the famous ones, and smugglers ran spice along the Kessel Run. A smuggler OC wants a fast ship, a hidden cargo hold and someone they owe.

Bounty hunter

Hunters take contracts from crime lords, the Empire or the Bounty Hunters' Guild, which certifies its members and holds them to a code: no poaching another hunter's bounty. Most wear whatever armor they have pieced together, so a hunter OC can be any species with any kit. Pick Bounty hunter as the faction and describe the gear.

Rebels and Resistance

The Rebel Alliance fought the Galactic Empire in the original trilogy, and the Resistance, founded by Leia Organa, fought the First Order in the sequels. Rebel starfighter pilots mostly wore orange flight suits. A good home for an OC who fights for a cause against long odds.

Empire and First Order

The Galactic Empire rose from the Republic at the end of the Clone Wars and ruled through stormtroopers and officers in gray-green or black uniforms, with a rank plaque on the chest. The First Order grew from Imperial remnant forces. Officers, TIE pilots and defectors all make strong OCs.

Names and gear

Name your character, pick their gear

Star Wars names are short and easy to shout across a hangar: a given name and a family name, like Han Solo or Jyn Erso. Mix one here, then pick a signature weapon or piece of gear. Every click goes straight onto your OC in the generator.

Guide

How to make your own Star Wars character

Create your own character, Star Wars style, by settling five things before you press Generate. That is all it takes to make a Star Wars character that holds up. The generator handles the drawing; these choices are what make the OC feel like it belongs in a galaxy far, far away.

  1. 1

Pick the era before the role

A High Republic Jedi wears white and gold or brown with gold trim and serves a Republic at its peak; a Jedi in the Imperial era is a fugitive in hiding. Choose the era first and the role, the gear and the stakes follow.

  2. 2

Choose a species for a reason

Species shapes the silhouette: Togruta montrals, Twi'lek head-tails, Zabrak horns. Tie it to the story too, like a Mirialan whose facial tattoos mark what she has achieved, or a Chiss far from home in the Unknown Regions.

  3. 3

Give them colors no hero owns

Most look-alikes come from a palette: an orange Togruta in white reads as Ahsoka, a blue Twi'lek Jedi as Aayla Secura, a red and black tattooed Zabrak as Darth Maul. Pick an outfit color and a lightsaber color that belong to your OC alone.

  4. 4

Let the gear tell the story

A Mandalorian's paint, a clone's armor stripes, a smuggler's patched jacket and a Jedi's hilt all say where the character has been. Describe one signature piece in the Signature weapon or gear box.

  5. 5

Keep them small in a big galaxy

The best Star Wars OCs live beside the Skywalkers, not inside the family. Give yours a ship, a crew or a clan, one strength, one flaw and a goal of their own.
